Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born July 8, 1989 in Paris. When she moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma realized that she wanted to be an actor and for several years, she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied singing dancing and acting. By the time she turned 10 years old, Emma took part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma by way of her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consistent auditions the producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast to play the three lead characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut film appearance came as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It broke all records in beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and was the highest-grossing film of the year 2001. Reviewers have been highly lauding the film and the performances by the three young actors. The well-known British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her impressive performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in an Film.
